How To Choose a Burial Vault...

Burns Vault & Precast offers a variety of burial vaults options to meet almost any taste and budget. There are a number of factors involved in choosing the right burial vault but the main factor is the level of protection the vault provides the grave. Below are some basic guidelines to help you make the right choice and provide you and your family peace of mind.

Why Is Protection Important?

Over the course of time, a grave site will be subjected to a number of elements that can stress or damage it's integrity, including:

Weight of Machinery

Cemeteries use a variety of heavy machines in their day-to-day operation, including backhoes to open and close graves, and tractors for ground maintenance. In fact, some backhoes used can weight as much as 25,000 pounds. The effects of the weight of heavy machinery rolling over an existing grave, or the accidental dropping of a backhoe bucket can inflict considerable damage to a grave.

Weight of Earth

The weight of the earth and dirt resting directly on top of a grave can be over 4,000 pounds. Over time, this weight, along with the weight of rainwater can generate considerable stress on a grave.

Forces of Nature

The effects of rainwater and underground insects also impact on a grave.

How Much Protection Do You Need?

A quality Eagle burial vault can significantly protect a grave from these forces. There are basically 3 factors which determine how much protection a burial vault provides to a grave:

Structural Strength

All Eagle burial vaults are made from high-strength reinforced concrete to protect a grave from the weight of heavy equipment and earth.

Layers of Strength & Protection

In addition to the strength of concrete, all of Eagle's burial vaults include the added protection of an inner liner which provide additional strength and help protect the grave from the intrusion of water and insects. Eagle also offers state-of-the-art technology in the Corinthian Line, which completely envelopes the concrete, inside and out, with a Martite or Grantite shell.

The Seal

In addition, Burns Vault & Precast insists on using an exceptional quality butyl rubber sealing compound between the base and cover. This virtually welds the base and lid into a single unit, affording the last line of defense against mother nature.

Making the Choice

Based on these factors, which burial vault or outer burial container is right for your needs?

GOOD
Outer Burial Containers  offer the most basic level of protection. They are made of a single layer of high strength reinforced concrete. These basic concrete grave liners offer the strength to uphold and support the grave from the weight of earth and heavy machinery, but because there is no protective inner liner or seal, there is nothing to impede moisture from gaining entrance into the box and contents.

BETTER
The Sentinel Line offers the strength of high-strength reinforced concrete, but adds the protection of an extra-thick duratite liner bonded to the vault, plus a tongue and groove seal with a butyl rubber sealing compound to bond the vault into a single unit.

BEST
The Corinthian Line completely surrounds the high-strength reinforced concrete vault with a durable Martite or Grantite polystyrene shell, inside and out, for three layers of strength and protection. The vault is sealed using a tongue and groove seal with a butyl rubber sealing compound.
